Artist Statement
My artistic practice explores the relationships between myth, identity, and power. Through various mediums, I tell stories that delve into the human experience and examine how these elements intersect. I draw inspiration from my own internal world, the external world around me, and the metaphysical realm. My work is a reflection of my personal journey as an artist, as well as a conversation with myself about the nature of identity and power. My practice is part therapy and part social commentary.
As a Black American artist, I am deeply rooted in the experiences that shape our culture and community, and my work is often shaped through that lens. At its core, my art explores how power operates within society and affects our lives. I am interested in examining personal power, privileges, contradictions, and the ways in which they are tied to identity. Through this exploration, I hope to create a space for empathy, growth, and understanding.
Mythology plays a significant role in my work as well. I believe that myths shape our perceptions of ourselves and others, and that by unpacking these narratives, we can gain a deeper understanding of the world around us. By examining the myths that govern our lives, I hope to create a dialogue about the ways in which power is constructed and maintained. Ultimately, my artistic practice is driven by a desire to understand and challenge the forces that shape our world. Through storytelling, I aim to create a space for reflection, critique, and growth, and to inspire others to join me on this journey of self-discovery and exploration. I also love space and dreams, and find that these themes create the backdrop for many of the stories I tell.
